Panametrics’ early innovations in flare measurement have evolved extensively over the years. We now work with our customers to efficiently control flares with flare.IQ, an advanced process control algorithm, and our ultrasonic flowmeters and services.
It begins with extensive knowledge of flare applications and how the ultrasonic meter provides more than just flow information. Since the 1970s, Panametrics has used ultrasonic meters to provide a better way to measure applications, but the unique requirements of flare gas applications required many of the benefits. We developed a meter to manage low-end flow for normal operation and continue to measure during adverse conditions where flow range would exceed conventional technologies. The meter has no restrictions and will not create backpressure that can cause safety issues in flares. Our unique ultrasonic meter determines the molecular weight of the hydrocarbon gas, yielding a mass flow measurement that identifies which gas is flaring.
Today the need for flare systems has moved beyond knowing the flow and understanding the bulk molecular weight. Growing public pressure to lessen the environmental impact of emissions, especially gases like methane, efficient combustion and accurate meter measurements are crucial. Panametrics has solved this challenge, integrating diagnostics from the flare meter with new advanced process control algorithms to determine flare gas BTU content.
Many baseline conditions exhibit numbers from 75% to 90%, depending on their control schemes. Our process, however, now achieves 98% CE of controls flare assist systems.
